There was a shy smile on her face - she'd gotten caught up in this as much as he had. Her own determination that she wasn't going to ruin his happiness had bolstered her own, and Tara scooted forward just a little more before leaning in to kiss him as her answer.

It was the first time since he'd been in here that she really kissed him, that wasn't just a buss on the lips the way you'd kiss a friend or a relative. Her fingers slipped back into his hair, the scar rough on his beard even though she was careful not to lean into him.

She pulled back only a fraction, that smile still on her lips. "Yeah, the present of yours in the drawer," she breathed softly. "You want to do it now, or you want to wait until we're not in here?" She's smiling widely, and she feels more connected to him in that moment than she has in years.

Tara doesn't think about it, but the way she feels now - it hasn't been like this, with the joy and the feeling that this is right - since they'd been in that park in Oregon a lifetime ago. This moment - this moment, even if it was transitory and wouldn't last because there is still so much damage to be healed...

It was what gave her hope that they could both maybe be whole again.
